OxiWear was chosen for the MassMEDIC (Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council) MedTech IGNITE program which included 12 startup companies developing innovations in wearables, diagnostics, and surgical devices in multiple specialties.
As we have shared in a few previous blog posts, OxiWear was chosen as one of five companies (out of 495 applicants) to participate in the leAD Sports & Health Tech Accelerator hosted in Lake Nona, Florida. This program is located in the Orlando area and was sponsored by leAD Sports and the Tavistock Group.
On November 4, Georgetown University hosted its 5th annual Leonsis Family Entrepreneurship competition called Bark Tank. The event featured six companies chosen to pitch their innovations and startup products. Shavi won this competition in 2018, which served as the launch of OxiWear. Winners from the previous competitions were invited to participate on the judges panel. We congratulate all of the 2021 participants and the co-winners: Joylet and STAFM Technology.
OxiWear announced it successfully closed a pre-seed funding round at $1.25M, oversubscribed above its goal of $750,000. OxiWear is a medtech and sportstech startup company developing an ear-wearable pulse oximeter for 24-hour, continuous oxygen monitoring, and low-oxygen alerting.
OxiWear submitted its FDA 510K (II) pre-submission package on November 12 with the assistance of MethodSense, our FDA filing consultants. The company received receipt confirmation along with its official FDA docket number. The team is scheduled for its pre-review meeting in early February 2022.
OxiWear participated in the first-ever bootcamp for Asian sports and health tech startups in partnership with leAD and Toyoshima. The seminar included product and company introductions by Xenoma and Euphoria. A panel discussion with the CEO’s of KinoTek and OxiWear was facilitated by Alexander Bente, Principal, ADvantage Sports Tech Fund.
OxiWear attended the MassMEDIC BIOMEDevice Boston 2021 convention held on September 21-22, 2021. We were thrilled to be chosen by Formlabs to receive a Formlabs3, 3D-printer package, as part of the company’s diversity and inclusion program in support of our founder and CEO. We look forward to using this new printer to assist us with designing and testing our product.
After a month of virtual programming, the OxiWear team started their in-person experience with the leAD Sports & Health Tech accelerator in Lake Nona, Florida. The kick-off event was hosted on September 13, 2021, and included the new cohort companies, OxiWear, Kutai, IndiFit, Point, Sugi, and Flumina. The team enjoyed learning about the accelerator program as well as touring the Lake Nona Performance Sports Arena and Beep (an autonomous transportation company).
Shavini Fernando competed in the TiE Women Global Pitch Competition hosted by the TiE DC chapter on September 1, 2021.
OxiWear was selected for the second cohort of the leAD Sports & Health Tech accelerator to be held from August to December 2021 in Lake Nona, Florida. The first United State sponsored cohort featured six companies and was hosted in 2020. This year, 497 companies applied for the fall cohort and six were chosen. Since its inception in 2016, the leAD Sports & Health tech program has supported 30 startups overall.
