ILD Patient

I would say there are two benefits of OxiWear. First, it gives me confidence by showing my oxygen levels in a dynamic situation. Second, it allows me to track my progress and see improvements over time.”

DENNIS’ STORY:

I’ve always enjoyed biking, but after my ILD diagnosis in 2018, it became more challenging. I often wondered if my oxygen levels were staying within a safe range. I tried several devices, but none provided the real-time accuracy I was looking for.

My pulmonologist recommended OxiWear, and it has made a noticeable difference. Now, I can focus more on my ride without constantly checking my levels. It’s not just about tracking the numbers—it’s about feeling more confident and secure while biking.”

My world was gray with fear, but with OxiWear, it’s full of joy and love again. I couldn’t be more thankful.”

MARCIE’S STORY:

Living with pulmonary hypertension has made everyday activities like grocery shopping and cleaning the house more difficult. One of the hardest parts has been feeling limited when spending time with my grandkids…they mean the world to me. I often had to pause to check my oxygen levels or worry about overexerting myself.

With OxiWear, I can stay present and more at ease—if there’s no alert, I know I’m okay. Now, I can focus on enjoying moments with my grandkids without constant concern.

ILD Patient

You have enough to worry about in your life, don’t let breathing be one of them.”

CHRIS’S STORY:

Covid turned my world upside down in 2020, leaving me disabled and suffering from severe restrictive lung disease, and a host of other debilitating health conditions.

Managing my health has been challenging—two open lung biopsies, ICU stays, and the daily need for supplemental oxygen. When my wife gifted me an OxiWear device, it made a real difference. Instead of constantly worrying about my oxygen levels, I can rely on receiving prompt alerts when I truly need them. Now, I feel more confident doing everyday things like picking up my daughter from school, attending events I otherwise would have missed, and feeling confident to plan trips to see family in Connecticut.

FROM LIFE-threatening to life-saving

Our Founder's Story

FOUNDER & PATIENT SPOTLIGHT:

Shavini Fernando

Shavini Fernando
Eisenmengers’ Syndrome

What began as a device to save my own life has now become a tool that can help millions around the world live more freely and fearlessly.”

SHAVINI'S STORY:

While hiking in Sri Lanka in 2015, my face turned blue. Initially thought to be asthma, I was later diagnosed with Eisenmenger Syndrome—a result of an undiagnosed hole in my heart—leading to severe pulmonary hypertension. This life-threatening condition constantly puts me at risk of dangerously low oxygen levels occurring without warning.

Given just two years to live, I sought a second opinion at Johns Hopkins. The only option presented was a high-risk heart and lung transplant. During this period, I experienced multiple caridac arrests and strokes due to dangerously low oxygen levels, requiring me to perform self-CPR to restart my heart.

This uncertainty led my doctors to question my active lifestyle. I faced the prospect of being tethered to constant oxygen or using bulky pulse oximeters. This wasn’t the quality of life I envisioned. Determined to find a better solution, I created OxiWear— a discreet, lightweight ear-wearable device for continuous oxygen measurement with real-time alerts when my oxygen levels reach the set threshold. In collaboration with my team of doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital, I designed it to meet three essential needs: continuous oxygen measurements, wearability and mobility, and proactive alerts. What began as a device to save my own life has now become a tool that can help millions around the world live more freely and fearlessly. Knowing that OxiWear can improve the quality of life for so many people fills me with an overwhelming sense of purpose and joy.

Clinical and at-home SETTINGS

Trusted by doctors

Leading experts across the United States trust OxiWear to deliver medical-grade accuracy without the burden of traditional pulse oximeters.

Dr. Stephen C. Mathai,
Johns Hopkins Pulmonary Hypertension Program

“The OxiWear device is a major advancement in the field of pulse oximetry. The accuracy and fidelity of oxygen saturation measurement both at rest and with exercise, wireless configuration with continuous measurements and output, and ear-placement interface make this device unique and, more importantly, highly feasible for use in a variety of settings, including in-person and remote monitoring of patients with underlying lung or heart disease.

Given the limitations of currently available devices to accurately detect oxygen levels in patients with darker skin pigmentation, the ability of OxiWear to consistently and precisely measure oxygen levels in persons with various skin pigmentation is truly remarkable and hugely important for the evaluation and care of patients.”
